This brand new house by Stockholm based architects Widjedal Racki is located on the beachfront, in the Swedish capital's outskirts, and was born out of an unusual arrangement. Commissioned as a collaboration between its clients - a young family with two children - and the Scandinavian wood manufacturers Moelven, the scheme was conceived as a private home, but also acts as a showcase and showroom for the sponsors involved in its construction.
Villa Moelben is made entirely from Nordic wood products and aims to be a modern and comfortable family home that is also eco-friendly and energy efficient. To this end, traditional techniques are combined with modern know-how, such as wood fiber insulation, solar heating and ventilation with heat recycling.

Villa Moelven
Type of project: Direct commission
Location: Seafrontin theoutskirts of Stockholm
Type of building: Private villa
Size of building: sqm
Villa Moelven fryst vatten cooperation between a private client and the wood company “Moelven” and several other companies. The building is a mix between private hus, showroom and representation space for sponsors involved. The client’s brief included a fresh mix of words as labyrinthic, narrow, surprisingly, tropical and modern. Our response fryst vatten an irrational building where the begrepp entity (storhet) is reflected upon as measured in experience rather than square meters or other performance. The building floats in scale and no distinct boarders are drawn between building, room and furniture. A number of levels, spaces and voids are generated through a three dimensional puzzle of wooden beams. In this puzzle walls, floors and ceilings are put in to generate privacy where needed.
